Riverbed Protection Downstream of an Undersized Stilling Basin by Means of Antifer Artificial Blocks

چکیده

Erosion at either dam or spillway foundations, destabilization in riverbanks, and damage the natural environment located downstream of dams spillways represent crucial elements to be taken into account risk assessment hydraulic structures. One main problems is related scouring that water flow may induce boundary spillways. This issue exacerbated case undersized stilling basins, i.e., when a significant level energy migrates by acting on unprotected riverbed. If scour depths are large enough, structural stability infrastructure will threatened. paper aims illustrate an innovative technical solution suitable protect riverbed just basins means artificial Antifer blocks. These kinds blocks widely used field maritime construction, but literature, there no theoretical formulations for their design within frame river engineering. In order demonstrate efficacy proposed solution, it applied real investigated physical modeling. The basin Liscione Dam (Campobasso, Italy) experienced due high discharges during after extreme rain events. Different protection strategies have been tested assess influence different placement methods packing densities block armor layers. Experimental findings reveal regular placements behave more stable than irregular with similar density.

Experimental Investigation of the Characteristics of Hydraulic Jump in a Diverging Stilling Basin with an Adverse Slope Using Baffle Blocks

Stilling basins have been used as an energy dissipater downstream of hydraulic structures. Dimensions of the stilling basins depends on hydraulic jump characteristics. In this research diverging hydraulic jump with an adverse slope using baffle blocks and an end sill have been studied experimentally and effect of diverging angle of the walls, adverse bed slope and baffle blocks on the hydraulic...

State of Art in Block Ramp and Downstream Stilling Basin Design

Block ramps are hydraulic structures which are commonly used in river restoration projects. Especially in the last few decades, the use of this type of structures have become more and more popular. They furnish a correct balance between the hydraulic functioning and the environmental care, as they minimize the impact on the environment in which they are located. In addition, they can be conside...

Monthly runoff forecasting by means of artificial neural networks (ANNs)

Over the last decade or so, artificial neural networks (ANNs) have become one of the most promising tools formodelling hydrological processes such as rainfall runoff processes. However, the employment of a single model doesnot seem to be an appropriate approach for modelling such a complex, nonlinear, and discontinuous process thatvaries in space and time. For this reason, this study aims at de...
